Temecula Valley, Murrieta and Lake Elsinore Valley Chambers of Commerce Continue to Hold Elected Officials Accountable to Business Community

The 2006 Vote Record: The 32 Potential Laws Tracked by the Southwest California Business Community and How Senator Jim Battin, Senator Dennis Hollingsworth, Assemblymember John J. Benoit, Assemblymember Ray Haynes, and Assemblymember Russ Bogh Voted

The Southwest California Legislative Council (SWCLC), a business advocacy coalition of the Temecula Valley, Murrieta and Lake Elsinore Valley Chambers of Commerce, voted in early 2006 to track 32 potential laws (bills) that might impact Murrieta businesses. Each month, businesses reviewed and discussed the status of all 32 bills. Southwest California local legislators received letters communicating the business community's positions on all 32 bills. The SWCLC lobbied during the 2006 legislative session for our legislators to OPPOSE 22 bills and SUPPORT 9 bills.

“We continued our effort to effectively represent the interests of Murrieta businesses with government,” stated Joan Sparkman, Chair of the SWCLC. “Our annual vote record highlights the work of the regional business community to protect the economic vitality of our valley and to hold our local legislators accountable to our business community,” Sparkman continued.

The SWCLC's official positions on each of the 32 bills have been available online at www.SouthwestCaliforniaAdvocacy.biz including summaries and explanations of why the coalition opposed and supported each of the 32 bills.

To reach the “Percentage FOR pro-jobs legislation”, the SWCLC tallied the number of times our legislators voted for the SWCLC’s position and divided that total by the total number of bills in which each legislators voted.. A bill is not figured into the vote record percentage if a legislator, for whatever reason, did not vote on a bill or if the bill died before the legislator had an opportunity to vote.
